Why Magnesium is so important to us?

Magnesium

What is Magnesium?

Magnesium (Mg) is very important to our health. It is the fourth represented mineral in the body and it is included in over 300 enzymatic reactions. So let us explain this in some basics. We make energy in our cells that is called ATP or adenosine triphosphate and guess what Mg is crucial for making it. Besides this, our DNA and RNA need Mg for synthesis, then reproduction, and finally protein synthesis. To simplify we need Magnesium for almost everything that is most important in our body such as blood pressure, muscular contraction, vasomotor tone, insulin metabolism, heart excitability, neural and neuromuscular functions.

Low levels of Magnesium

If you have low levels of Mg or hypomagnesemia you should increase your intake of food and supplements that have this mineral. So hypomagnesemia is a condition that is very alarming for our health. It is associated with a lot of chronic conditions. Some of them are Alzheimer’s disease, insulin resistance, hypertension, migraines, headaches, cardiovascular diseases, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, and asthma.

Symptoms of hypomagnesemia

Some of the most common symptoms of low levels of Mg are anxiety, muscle cramps, nausea, exhaustion, asthenia, insomnia, and mental instability. Again always consult a medical doctor if you have some of these symptoms.

Main benefits of Magnesium

  • Reduce stress and support good energy
  • Reduce fatigue and support mood
  • Helps with insomnia
  • Reduce PMS and menstrual cramps
  • Reduce headaches and migraines
  • Support vitamin D levels
  • Support blood sugar and
  • Reduce insulin resistance

Magnesium in the prevention of diseases and aging

First, as Magnesium is included in many functions of our body it is very logical that its deficiency can lead to many symptoms or diseases. It is proven that supplementation of Mg can prevent or diminish symptoms of hypertension, migraines, headaches, and some psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD. Mg is also included in the prevention of oxidative stress and some chronic processes that lead to aging.

Food that is rich in Magnesium

If you want to increase your Magnesium then supplementation can be the first option if you have a very low concentration of Mg, but equally important is the Mg-rich food that you can eat every day. Some of the most delicious food you can mix every day and increase the intake of this mineral are :

  • cacao
  • hemp seed
  • black bean
  • pumpkin seed
  • avocado
  • spinach
  • swiss chard
  • bananas
  • dairy
  • cashew

Notice the symptoms of low magnesium and consult your doctor about it. Try Magnesium supplementation and increase the Mg-rich food. Benefit your health with some simple steps.  Finally, I hope you understand a little bit more why Mg is so important to us.
