What is dysbiosis and how it affects our health?

Dysbiosis

Have you ever thought about how our body is one perfect system? Through evolution, everything that is made is there for good reason and has its purpose. One example is a good microorganism that we have in our organism and how important are they for our health. Mucosa in our organism ( gastrointestinal, urinary, and genital system) and skin are full of good bacteria that help us to stay healthy and strong. They are all very important and if something is not alright with its microbiome many diseases can appear, especially if it is gut dysbiosis. So what is dysbiosis and how it actually affects our health?

What are gut microbiome and dysbiosis?

In our intestines, there are trillions of microorganisms that are good for our health. We call it the gut microbiome and it’s made mostly of good bacteria and fungi. There are almost 10 times more microorganisms than our cells in the body. So it is very important to have balance in their function and number because our immunity is very dependent on them. If there is an issue with the microbiome in the intestine then we call it dysbiosis.

The symptoms and conditions caused by dysbiosis?

Dysbiosis can be an acute or chronic issue. It can lead to stomach problems or general health problems.

Some of the conditions:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Inflammatory bowel diseaseĀ
  • Immunodeficiency
  • Metabolic issues like insulin resistanceĀ
  • Skin problems
  • Obesity
  • Cardiovascular problems
  • Psychiatric diseases
  • Neurodegenerative diseases
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer

All these things can be caused by poor gastrointestinal microbiome – dysbiosis. And many studies have shown that improving this problem can reverse and even heal many diseases.

So things you should notice and suspect about dysbiosis are:

  • Diarrhea, stomach cramps, stomachache
  • Constipation, gases, bloating
  • Food intolerance
  • Acid reflux
  • Acne, rashes, psoriasis, eczema
  • Mood swings, anxiety, and depression
  • Fatigue, exhaustion
  • Frequent infections, immunodeficiency,
  • Inflammation in joints

These are symptoms that you can connect with poor gut health. And if you have any of them you should consult your doctor and try to find a solution.Ā

What can cause dysbiosis?

The main reasons that can cause dysbiosis are:

  1. High levels of stress can weaken immunity
  2. Food such as industrial sugar, soda, additives
  3. Alcohol
  4. Intake of pesticides ( unwashed vegetables and fruit)
  5. Antibiotics
  6. Poor dental hygiene

Ā

How to improve your microbiome?

Always consult your doctor and do some diagnostic tests like comprehensive digestive stool analysis, organic acid test, or hydrogen breath test. Your medical doctor can begin with therapy like antibiotics if you have bad bacteria overgrowth or probiotics if you have a deficiency of good bacteria.

Try to change your diet. Eat more vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale. Garlic, oil of oregano, or oil of spearmint are very good for gut health.

Choose colorful fruit and try to chew it because that way you eat minerals, vitamins, and fibers. Choose nuts and cerealĀ for a healthier version of snacks or breakfast. Drink more yogurt and kefir. Sauerkraut and olives are good probiotics and prebiotics for every day. Drink celery juice every morning on empty stomach and drink a lot of water in general.Ā  Avoid unhealthy fats, processed food, alcohol, and soda.

Also, include some probiotics (Lactobacillus, Bifidobacteria, or Saccharomyces) and try to use supplements like zinc, B-complex, and magnesium.
